Sanford “Sandy” Bates earned his graduate degree in Exercise Physiology from George Williams College in 1986, specializing in Preventive and Rehabilitative Cardiovascular Health. His Master’s Thesis was “A Survey of Athletic Injuries in Triathletes” and was published in the book, “The Science of Triathlon Training and Competition”, by Dr Glenn Town.
Sandy has over 35 years of experience in health and wellness working in rehabilitative settings such as physical therapy and cardiac rehabilitation and preventive settings such as health clubs, YMCA’s and corporate and school board wellness programs.
Sandy is the President and sole owner of the United States Health Foundation, Inc. in Lakeland, Florida. Sandy has held management positions with “The Spine Center” at Florida Orthopaedic Institute, Rehab Health Partners, Performance Physical Therapy, YMCA of West Central Florida, Tampa YMCA, Lifestyle Family Fitness and the exclusive Spa at Palm Aire in Pompano Beach, Florida. Sandy worked for the Polk County School Board developing and implementing the nationally recognized Diabetes Management Program among other health and wellness screening programs.
Sandy is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine and has been certified through ASCM as a Certified Health Fitness Specialist. Sandy was adjunct faculty at Polk State College instructing Wellness Concepts. He sat on the advisory committee for Sports Medicine and Fitness Technology Department at Keiser University, Lakeland campus. Sandy worked closely with Polk Vision in the Building a Healthier Polk” collaboration to help lower the obesity rate in Polk County, Florida.
